Success Story

During the project Access to Womens Health Services, BCCHI was training government health personnel, and self-breast examination was one of the topics. During the project Access to Womens Health Services, BCCHI was training government health personnel, and self-breast examination was one of the topics. Mrs. Prabha, a Local Health Volunteer (LHV), did self-breast examination after the training. She felt a lump in the breast. BCCHI happened to be conducting a Cancer detection camp in her area at the time.

The lady Medical Officer at the camp suspected breast cancer and referred her to Bharath Hospital Institute and Oncology. It was confirmed through biopsy that she had 2nd stage breast cancer. Mrs. Prabha underwent surgery, followed by 2 cycles of chemotherapy and 20 fractions of radiation. Now the disease is totally under control.

She said, were it not for the training given by BCCHI (Trust) and had I not attended the general camp organised by them, I do not know whether I would have been alive to tell this story. May God bless the founder and the staff of the organisation, where a lot of rural and poor people are helped by the health education and training and the camps conducted by them.
