Overview

El Shaddai Charitable Trust (ESCT) runs residential homes for needy orphans, destitutes and children at risk. They are currently running four Homes in Goa.

How It Works

• This programme is implemented through the residential Homes run by El Shaddai.
• Community workers and other organizations help ESCT to get in touch with the family/relatives of the beneficiary.
• Needy orphans or destitute children at risk are identified.
• At the El Shaddai Home, each child is provided with food, clothing, shelter. Medical needs of the children are also taken care of.
• There are staff who work round the clock to provide needed support to these children. • The organization tries its best to admit the children into formal schools. However, if that is not possible, ESCT admits these children into non-formal schools, which are also run by the organization.
• The children are provided with extra coaching after the schooling hours by two staff in each home.
• The children are placed in various homes as per their age and gender.

Statistics

• 2-16 years – Age of children currently enrolled in the Homes
• 6 – Number of residential Homes run by ESCT

Paru
We believe that Paru is originally from Karnataka. Paru and her elder sister, Rupa were found at the Mapusa bus stand without their parents or any relatives. Paru and her sister were noticed moving around on their own late at night. An unknown person informed and alerted the Police about the children and requested an action to be taken. The Police immediately rescued the children and enquired about their parents but the children being young were unable to disclose much information.
The Police later brought Paru and her sister to us and requested that the children be admitted into one of our Homes as they had no place to stay. Paru and her sister were quickly admitted into the House of Kathleen and welcomed into a loving home which offered them comfort, companionship, nourishing food, education and the possibility of a secure future.
Paru now feels safe and happy. She is now attending non-formal school. She has shown a lot of improvement in her studies. She enjoys studying and is a bright learner. She is also attending after-school coaching that happen in the home. She needs continuous love and care to help her achieve her goals to grow and develop as a normal child.
