Overview

The project “Meals on Wheels” was started with the aim of providing a nutritious one-time meal to old people, women on the roadside, and children in market places, roads, and in the slums.

How It Works

• Meals are distributed on a daily basis in different cities of Goa, including Calangute, Panaji and Margao.
• Many of the above mentioned beneficiaries are migrants from other states who have come to Goa in search of better livelihood options, but end up staying in the slums or roadside. Some of these beneficiaries are sick and beg for alms
• The street children are encouraged to join the NGO’s Day Care Shelter programme and to get back to school. The members of the NGO help with the school requirements and also provide extra coaching for these children.

Manna Distribution of Stepping Stones
A year ago from now, through our Stepping Stones programme we started Manna Food Distribution to the people who are needy and neglected. Earlier, these people used to beg and waste their lives on the streets. They used to live an unhealthy lifestyle, had fallen prey to vices like alcoholism and did not value anything or anyone in their lives.
More than the food, they needed love and care. As a result, Stepping Stones felt the need to start counseling for such people, to help them get over the various addictions, to stop wasting their lives away because of depression and to explain to them the importance of life.
Now, most of these people, who have been encountered by Stepping Stones have started working. With the help of the counseling received, some of them have started living their lives with dignity and know how to value things and people around them. In terms of health, they are better off now. In case there is any illness or any injury, they come to the shelter, asking for medicines. Stepping Stones makes sure that the person is given the required medicine on the recommendation of a doctor and also makes sure that any open wound is cleaned and dressed.
