Overview

Madhya Pradesh Vikalang Sahayta Samiti provides special education to developmentally disabled children and adults.

The Basics

Developmental disability covers autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities. These are least understood disabilities in society and the persons affected with them are the most neglected group in society. They cannot be enrolled in regular schools because they have different educational needs. Hence, the organization started a special school for these children.

How It Works

• The special education is based on repeated practical exposure using special education techniques, special educational material in special classes by special educators.
• Students learn self-care, social adaptive behaviour, functional academics, and prevocational and recreational skills.
• This prepares the ground for their vocational training in future to make them independent.
• This programme includes support to many poor disabled children and adults who are cross-subsidized by beneficiaries who can afford to pay.
• These poor beneficiaries need special education but due to financial constraints do not get it.
• This donation option will help to sponsor the special education/ training of a child or adult with a developmental disability for a year.
Statistics

• 75 – Number of poor disabled children and adults in the school

In our school he was provided special skill development training in self care, social behavior, functional academics, prevocational, recreational areas followed by vocational skills. As a result of these interventions he improved a lot and became independent in self care and socially more acceptable. Finally he got employed in our school in 2003 and continuing as a full time supporting staff till date. During training in our school he developed special interest in sports and games and participated as a member of Indian Basket Ball Team for the international special Olympics in Athens, Greece in 2011 and won Gold Medal for the country.
