Mission/Vision
Diya Foundation envisions individuals and their families alive with dignity and pride in the present and hope in the future

Background
There are few work options for a mentally retarded adult after special school. There is no preparation of the student to meet the after school transition period;Diya Foundation was started to bridge the school to work to life-skills transitions.

Maria S Santamaria has a Masters Degrree in Special Education and has been in the field of Special Education for the past 26 years. She founded Diya Foundation and has been running it for the past 15 years. It has been a challenge trying to find job opportunities for the trainees and she hopes that by show casing a successful corporate model,Diya will be able to not only provide employment for the trainees after training but also create an awareness regarding the work potential of the intellectually challenged. The high point of her journey is the realization of the beneficiaries that there is a whole new world of opportunity beyond Diya Foundation and that they are ready to move out of the Sheltered Work and are confident in facing the world of competitive employment.
