 Jayabharathi can eat now
Jayabharathi was found abandoned at the CSI Church, Erode. She was provided first aid and sent to an adoption home. When they realized that she is a child with special needs and was then sent to Sri Arunodayam. When she came to us in January 2007 she was bed ridden, dependent on others for her activities of daily living and both her hands did not function normally. Physiotherapy was provided to make her raise on her knees and come to crawling position - this was achieved. to make her kneel with support - this was too achieved. to stretch the hamstrings and adductors of both lower limbs and to improve her hand function - now hand function is improving and she can eat by herself . Now she is able to crawl, sit with support and eat by herself and her hand function has improved.

 Story of Abi Sidharth
Abi Sidharth was abandoned in a subway near Chennai central railway station. When he came to Sri Arunodayam in 2005, he was dependent on others for his activities of daily living, was totally immobile and could stand or walk. He endures sever mental retardation and Cerebral Palsy. At Sri Arunodayam we placed him in the pre-primary level for special education and the goals set for him were Number skill – identify short, long, tall, Money skills – select a rupee note from other paper objects, reading – to sequentially arrange 5 pictures and tell a story, fine motor – screw and unscrew a bottle or jar lid. Abi Sidharth has achieved three out of the four goals and we are working on improving his skills. He is now able to move around the place and able to indicate his needs. He also trying writes through his leg.

 Story of Akshaya
My name is Akshaya and I am seven years old. I was the fifth daughter in my family and my parents found it difficult to provide for my special needs; so they placed me at a home. As I grew up, I found it hard to make friends and realised that I was different from others. I used to cry constantly and stayed away from other children. I also found it difficult to do day-to-day tasks and couldn’t walk either, without losing my balance. Then everything changed a few months back, when I came to Sri Arunodayam. Everyone made me feel so welcomed and accepted. Soon I got interested in the activities and the games and am enjoying life much more. The staff and therapists here have also taught me to be independent and I can now perform regular tasks easily. I have made friends and am no longer Activity of Daily Living (ADL) disabled. Now she is able to look after her personal needs independently.

 Giving Care
All our children are abandoned on the streets due to poverty and disability by their parents. They are all rescued by the child line staff and the police department and are referred to us by the child welfare committees for care and rehabilitation. We admit the children into our shelter and our team will assess the needs of our children Our care givers provide the care round the clock. Most of our children are severely disabled and are depend on us for their needs. Our care mothers are trained to take care these children. They stay with the children. They clean them daily, put clothes, groom them daily and feed them. They also attend the children in the hospitable if the child gets sick and admitted in the hospital. As of now we are taking care of 107 children. Out of 107 there are 60 children need to be fed daily by the care givers. They are totally depended. Our care mothers are trained to monitor regular medicines under the supervision of a nurse. They are doing the duty of their real parents.
