Mission/Vision
A world that ensures good healthcare and medical facilities to all.

Background
Dr. Abraham was inspired by the work of Nephrologist Dr. Oreopopulous in Canada. He wanted to change the scenario in India where poor patients were unable to bear the high cost of treatment and established TANKER to serve this purpose.

TANKER (Tamilnad Kidney Research) Foundation is a registered non-profit charitable trust founded by Dr.Georgi Abraham and like-minded people in June 1993 with the main aim of providing subsidized dialysis and financial assistance for transplantation, medication and investigation costs to the underprivileged with kidney disease. TANKER Foundation also does awareness programmes on kidney disease and screening camps for early detection of kidney disease.

 Mrs.A.Mahalakshmi
Married to an auto driver, 40 year old Mahalakshmi has no children. On an earning of Rs.3,000 to 4,000 a month, Mahalakshmi is living with her mother in law and had kidney failure 3 years back. Driven to poverty due to high treatment costs, she was referred to TANKER a year ago. She is a known diabetic, developed renal failure due to medication for infertility treatment. Tanker Foundation facilitated her second Fistula Surgery free of cost, which is required for a patient to continue dialysis process when the first fistula fails. This surgery is costly and Tanker saved Mahalakshmi this expense which she can now utilise for her dialysis sessions. Mahalakshmi is now undergoing dialysis at subsidised rates at TANKER's Kilpaul Unit and her Fistula is working well.

 Subramaniam
Subramaniam a renal failure patient from Coimbatore underwent renal transplantation at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in the year 2004. He is a very needy patient who has been struggling to find the money for his post transplant medication without which the transplanted kidney will fail. Tanker gave an amount of Rs.6000 towards part of his post transplant medication with the donation from a GiveIndia donor in July 2008.This year we have decided to give Rs.8000 towards this as it varies from Rs.8000 - Rs.10000 per patient per month. Subramaniam is doing well but is constantly needing to find funds for his post transplant medication from other donors.

 Venkatesan Victory
Mr. Venkatesan a BE student (son of a coolie) had kidney failure in 2008 and his mother came forward to donate a kidney. As the patient was very poor he had the transplant done in a government hospital. Some of the tests had to be done outside and TANKER stepped in to help out in the investigations. This 24 year old is now back on his feet and hopes to complete his degree and help his family.
