Mission/Vision
To become a centre of excellence in providing In-Patient and Home Based Palliative Care to ensure peace and dignity and the best quality of life for advanced cancer patients. To become a centre of excellence in providing Training, Education and Awareness in Palliative Care to health professionals and the general public.

Background
In 1993, four gentlemen realised that a large number of patients reached the hospitals for the first time when their disease was advanced with no hope for cure. They were in agony and in pain - physical, emotional, financial and spiritual. There was no well established group that could offer any support. Pain relief, an important part of palliative care, was not well understood by health care providers then. With this background, the Indian Cancer Society - Karnataka chapter (ICS K) began making plans for a hospice which would offer care to these unfortunate people. ICS K felt it was worthwhile to do this major project in partnership with another service organisation- the Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar (RCBI). And thus was created the Bangalore Hospice Trust (BHT), a joint project of ICSK and Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar, that was to offer free palliative care to these advanced stage cancer patients.

Mr. Gurmeet Singh Randhawa is one of the founder trustees of Bangalore Hospice Trust and past President of Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar. His career has spanned working with MNC's to running his own businesses. End of Life care is all about providing the best possible quality of life. Our aim of providing quality palliative care includes not only the patients but also their families and all other care givers. It also provides post bereavement support for the families. We need to treat each patient as individual entities. It is incidental that they have advanced cancer but each one requires different caring because each one is unique.

 Dying with Dignity!
Ram, 62 years, known case of skin cancer, entered our hospice in severe pain and with a swollen feet. Due to improper wound management his blisters were oozing with pus and were severely infected. Due to this Ram was unable to walk and was bedridden. The combination of these factors lead to Ram being severely depressed and disgusted with himself. He was in need of immediate medical help. When we took him into our hospice, we were able to provide him with proper wound management – the dressings were done regularly which curbed infection, pain medication was administered. Our doctors ensured that treatment was tailor made as per his requirement which helped him to get relief from pain and other distressing symptoms. With the physiotherapist teams support he also began to walk slowly with assistance. Once in our care, he was able to move around and interact with others, all by himself. This improved his morale and self esteem. His pain was also controlled which lead him to be in peace and in comfort.
