 Home away from home
Mr. Mane, is a resident of Deshmukh Old Age Home. Before he came to our old age home, he was staying alone. Mane was married and was staying near Satara. His wife left him after a few years of their marriage. He had no children and was staying alone. He used to do some odd jobs. He just existed without any aim in the life. When his brother got to know about the Deshmukh Old Age Home, he approached the home seeking shelter for his brother. Mane was eligible for admission and was admitted. The manager at the home realized that Mane is interested in farming. The old age home has land around the home where vegetables are grown and are used in the kitchen. Considering his interest, he was asked to take care of work in the farm of the old age home. The staff at the home realized that he was enjoying the work and would always look forward to this every day. Mr. Mane is very happy now. He does not remember his past frequently. He now says that this old age home is his only home and the staff and the residents are his family. He keeps himself occupied in doing work in the farm and attending satsang in the evening.

After many years she remembered her home
Meena was seen on the road near Vikhroli Paper Mill. She was wandering on the road. The Neptune Team located her while distributing food. One packet was given to her too. Neptune Team realized that she had psychological problem. The Neptune staff is well experienced in dealing with mentally ill destitutes. When our staff asked about her family whereabouts, she just nodded but was not able to say much. She seemed quite traumatized due to her situation. The staff realized that Meena was in need of proper care and treatment and it was possible that we could reunite her with her family. Meena was picked up with Police help. Due court permission was obtained by Neptune Team for her admission to The Thane Mental Hospital. In a few days, the treatment and counseling showed positive results on Meena. She gave some information about her family, about her children and later her mothers home in Satara. The family was contacted with police help. Her brother filled in the gaps about Meena including details of her abusive married life. Her husband physically harassed her. She left home after a particularly abusive fight. This was eight years ago. Her brother put her son in touch with Neptune and was very happy to know that his mother was safe and fine. After two days son and brother came to pick her up. Her son was extremely happy, as he was very young when his mother had left. Now he is earning and able to take care of her. It was a very emotional moment to see Meena reunited with her family.

Ek nayi shuruaat- A new start
Reena was all shattered when she realized that she was suffering from a life threatening disease. She was diagnosed, as HIVpositive and she didn’t know what to do and how to carry forward the life. She thought that she had reached the point in life from where she had no way to move forward. She was getting medicines from local BMC hospital but she was completely shattered and saw no point in having it regularly. She used to work as a labourer on daily wages. She had to leave her work as her health condition made it difficult for her to go for work regularly for long hours; which lead to a situation where she found it difficult to get 2 meals every day. She was told by BMC doctors to have good diet so that medicines could work well. But she was unable to deal with her situation. She became very depressed. The Neptune Community Social Worker contacted Reena. During the first meeting, the social worker realized that she was very depressed and weak. She was in need of emotional support. She was also in need of a proper diet, which could take care of her health. Reena was enrolled in the monthly Ration programme of Neptune Foundation. She started getting her monthly ration of dal, rice, wheat, sugar, oil, tea powder, pulses, protein powder and vitamin supplements. She started feeling better. The community social worker could see small change in her. She was more outgoing and was open for counseling. With regular counseling and better health condition, she regained her confidence. She decided to begin her life anew. One day she expressed a wish to the community social worker that she would like to reach out to other women affected by HIV like her and help give them emotional support. She had nutritional support from Neptune Foundation so she could afford to work for fewer hours. She wanted to utilize her time in helping others. She felt that the emotional support from the community social worker and nutritional support from Neptune Foundation gave her a new ray of hope in her life. Today she is a role model for other women and men in her community and the other communities where she goes and talks to people about how to live a normal life in spite of suffering from HIV.
