Mission/Vision
At FMCH we focus on encouraging preventative health, balanced nutrition and child developmental practices in underprivileged communities. To achieve this we adopt a holistic approach by embracing and empowering mothers and children in their social environment.

Background
Started by Leena Godiwala after volunteering at FMCH Indonesia while posted there. Originally the focus was a broader group of services focused on a smaller area but in 2010 the emphasis shifted to a more focused group of services that could reach more beneficiaries, was more sustainable and could be replicated.

Piya holds a Masters Degree in Social Work, with over 14 years’ experience in the non-profit space in India. Piya has been working with FMCH since the year 2011, playing a crucial role in the organization's growth. Piya is the spearhead for FMCH India, responsible for successful functioning of the organization.

Shourya Dagha now a well-child status
The situation before your intervention: Shourya Dagha came to FMCH when he was just 6 months old. His mother brought him to the clinic as she felt he was not gaining weight and being irritable. Assessment of his height and weight showed that Shourya is severely malnourished weighing just 2.59 kgs. What you did to help this person: The FMCH team worked with Shourya and his mother to ensure that he is breastfeeding, and started complementary feeding for him once he completed six months, Since they lived outside the community it was difficult for the mother to attend the nutrition course. Therefore the nurse and nutritionist spent time with the mother during and post clinics to correct his breastfeeding position and counsel about the right foods to start and frequency. He was also given vitamin supplements. The situation after/ Achievement after your intervention: Within 4 weeks Shourya moved from SAM to well-child status. And in 12 weeks time he had become a healthy child as per the WHO standards both in terms of underweight (weight for age, his weight now being 6 kgs) and wasting (weight for height).

 The Twins from Phule Nagar
Roshan and Rohan Jaiswal are twins form our Phule Nagar clinic. Roshan’s birth weight was 1.30 kg and Rohan’s birth weight was 1.40 kg, they were born at home. Their mother brought them to the FMCH 1000 Days’ clinic when they were just 2 days old since she was worried about their weight and growth. The mother was counseled regarding effective breast-feeding by the FMCH nurse and the FMCH nutritionist. After just one round of counseling, the weight of the children showed improvement. Through regular follow-ups and counseling we made sure that the mother was exclusively breast-feeding the children and did not uses any pre – lacteals feeds or formulas. Now, at the age of 2 months, their weight has improved significantly, where Roshan weighs 4.29 kg and Rohan weighs 3.9 1kg. Both the children are now under the ‘Well Child’ category as per WHO growth reference standards
