 Wadi Project gives Hope
Damodar Sahariya, a resident of Dudaria Village of Bangra Block of Jhansi District belongs to the most disadvantaged Sahariya Community a backward tribe. His annual income was only Rs 10000 to Rs.15000, earned from Non Timber Forest Produce. Even though he had 2 acres of fertile land, he did not have access to two meals per day. He did not have access to basic necessities nor hoped that he would ever have! With the support of NABARD Jhansi, HARITIKA has provided him plants of fruits, Bio-pesticides, bio-fertilizers, fencing plants and materials, intercropping plants and paid for the cost of tilling his own land. Along with this help, more importantly we have given him support for water resource development. Thanks to this support, he dug a well in his land. We have also trained him and monitored the programme at every phase of implementation and post implementation. Today it is approximately 3 years after the implementation of project and the impact on the villagers, including Damodar is seen. Along with orchard development, he has started intercropping of vegetables as well. His income has increased to 35000 per annum. From this year in his orchard has yielded good quality guavas. Now he is able to fulfill basic needs of his family. His children attend school. He has gained self-confidence within himself and can raise his voice for his rights.
