 Story of Lakshmi
Lakshmi was married when she was 15 years old because her parents, who lived in Kolkata, were very poor and wanted to arrange her marriage early. She had two daughters and two sons and her husband was a day laborer. Unfortunately, he spent most of his earnings on alcohol and soon became an alcoholic. Because of this, their family had very little food. After her sons were married, they did not take care of her nor did they give her enough food or clothes. After they started to beat her, she left home and came to Vrindavan. One year ago, Lakshmi found Maitri. Since then, she has received new clothes about two times per year and has had a clean place to live. Now, in the wintertime, she does not have to worry about shivering in the cold; she is kept warm and clean. Although she still misses her family, Lakshmi is grateful to Maitri for providing her with a safe place to live and clean clothes during her old age.
