Mission/Vision
Vision: Every child educated and equipped with equal opportunities to transform their lives. Mission: To enable a brighter future for children from low-income communities by providing them with desired knowledge, skills, values and support to achieve their true potential.

Background
The foundation of what Udaan is today was laid in 2004 when a group of people came together to help children from the construction workers’ community to get into Mainstream schools, and started Project Udaan. The overwhelming progress shown by the children enrolled at Udaan Learning centre programs over the years gave us the confidence of the impact and opportunities we could provide our children and Project Udaan was registered as Udaan India Foundation in 2009.

Mamta Rangan founded Udaan India Foundation as an informal project. Taking a sabbatical from the corporate sector, her move to Mumbai brought her face to face with the stark inequities that we so often fail to notice in our busy lives. Her belief, Education is key to Change led her to start Project Udaan to help children of Construction workers to enrol in mainstream schools. The project was registered as a non-profit in 2009 to support the educational needs of children from low-income communities and today offers a range of programs that include Kindergarten, Learning Center, School Support, Saturday Club, Library, Alumni support and Scholarships and Skills Enhancement. She says: For our children, Udaan is an opportunity. An opportunity for a safe childhood, an opportunity to learn, to dance, to play, to grow, to explore, to dream and above all an opportunity to realise their dreams

 Santoshi Maitri flies high!
Santoshi Maitri, 8 years old lived in the construction workers community and like most girls in her community looked after the household chores while her parents went to work at the construction sites in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai. Santoshi was the first student who joined Project Udaan 8 years ago and one of the first students we enrolled at Tirandaz municipal school. Through her hard work, commitment and the support and guidance received from the teachers at Udaan, she blossomed into a bright and confident young girl who was ahead of her class in all activities. Santoshi passed the Grade 10 SSC boards in 2012 with a First class and is now pursuing grade 11 in commerce stream. She wants to become a teacher at Udaan one day so as to help many young girls like her. In Santoshi’s words: Agar Udaan nahin hota, to mein kabhi school nahin ja paati.
