Facilitating a poor child to continue in education
Gollapalem is one of the most remote and island coastal village in Krishna district. The families living in this village belong to backward class and depend upon agricultural labor and fishing. The geographical location of the village is such that it is frequently affected by cyclones and floods. This leads to school absenteeism, school dropout rate, child labor problems. In these villages school dropout rate is high between Grade 5 and 7. Bommidi saraswathi is an intelligent student from the fishing community. She is studying in Grade 5. Her parents were unable to support the educational needs and asked her to discontinue her education further. This case was identified by the Asha Kiran volunteer with the help of the school committee. We provided 2 sets of uniforms, note books and footwear to Saraswathi. Saraswathi is continuing her school education. Her parents also feel happy that her educational needs are met and they are sending her daughter to the school regularly. The children in the village who belong to dalit community are now confident and continuing their education up to high school level. Due to our interventions in these villages, the incidents of school absenteeism and dropout rate is reduced. The parents and the community understand the need and importance of the children education and our special focus on girl child education.

 Food security to a Granny
Tirumalasetti Nancharamma, aged 75, resident of pallepalem lives alone in a small hut in the village. She is a mother of two daughters; two of them are giving up marriage. She cleans utensils and washes clothes in nearby houses and gets leftover food to eat. Apart from that, she gets Rs.200 as pension from government out of that she spends Rs40 for her auto travel to get the pension for panchayath office. At this age, she has health problems, but has nobody to look after her. Asha Kiran provided her food items 15kilo rice, 1kilo cooking oil, 1 kilo provisions, 1 sari, 1 blanket and mosquito net to Tirumalasetti Nancharamma from our local funds. Asha Kiran has identified 200 grannies that are suffering like this in 20 coastal villages. With support from Asha Kiran, now Tirumalasetti Nancharamma is able to get food twice a day, and has clothes. She is happy and living a peaceful and secured life for few months. These old ladies are happy and their hopes to live have been increased. We conduct monthly meetings with them and organize free medical and cultural programs.

Facilitating an orphan child, Sowmya to continue his/her education
Sowmya is ten years of age. She is from Narayanapuram village of coastal area in west Godavari district. She belongs to a marginalized community schedule tribe yanadi. Her mother Suramma died when Sowmya was an infant baby. Her real problems started when her father Chenchayya left the family after death of Suramma five years back. After the death of her mother, she went to the home of her grandmothers (Laxmamma) house, she is a rag picker. However she was used only as a domestic servant and rag picking. This case is identified by the Asha Kiran volunteer and the school committee, they brought to the notice of ASHA KIRAN, we provided 2 sets of uniforms, note books, footwear, rice and provisions to Sowmya. She is going to school regularly, she is happy about this support and she got confidence to continue her education without hurdles. Her grandmother Laxmamma also feels happy that her granddaughter’s educational needs are met and she is sending her granddaughter to school regularly. Sowmaya is very happy to be in the school and made lot of new friends. She is now studying 5th grade. As she was out of school for longtime now her class teacher Mrs. Hagar is taking special attention on Sowmaya. She is showing good progress in education.
