Providing high quality eye care, to every one irrespective of socio-economic status, through rural outreach programme. Help those in need of eyesight, who don t have near and dear to take care, who can t make it to a hospital on their own.
Supported by Rotary Club of Madras Fort this exclusive ophthalmic hospital provides help to those rural poor suffering from Avoidable Blindness, who cannot make it to a hospital on their own to restore sight with total care and love.
Dr. P Janakiraman is a Retinal Specialist and performing retinal surgeries. He provides clinical support to Sankara Eye Care Institutions in India & Nigeria.

Board Members Background
1 Dr. R V Ramani Dr.R.V.Ramani with the blessings and guidance of Sri Kanchi Sankaracharya founded Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Medical Centre in the year 1977, a clinic that provided subsidised health care to the poor. This dream led to another – the founding of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Medical Trust in the year 1982 and Sankara Eye Hospitals in the year 1985. His unstinted commitment to the cause and devotion to Sankara has helped to create an enduring legacy.
2 Dr. P Janakiraman Dr. P. Janakiraman is a specialist in Cataract, Glaucoma, Retina & Refractive Surgery. He completed his Master of Surgery in Ophthalmology in 1981. He is working as Consultant in Vijaya Hospital, Chennai since 1983. He provides clinical guidance to Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal and Sankara Eye Care Institutions in India & Nigeria
3 S Visvanathan S. Visvanathan is a Railway workers’ trade unionist and retired as Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer. He is an ardent devotee of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. Now functions as President & Correspondent of Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Trustee & Secretary of Sankara Health Education and Charitable Trust managing a 30 bed general hospital. He is actively involved with multiple institutions in the cultural, educational and health care sectors.
4 B P Jain B.P. Jain, a chartered accountant, was instrumental to initiate eye care activities at Pammal. During his Presidentship in Rotary Club of Madras Fort, Rtn.B.P.Jain took keen interest and started a project “Kannoli-Vision Saver” in this hospital in December 1994. He was a senior auditor for various leading companies in Mumbai and Chennai like, Essar Group of Companies. He is a philanthropist.
5 V Lakshmanan V. Lakshmanan, Mechanical Engineer, runs Nucleus Satellite Communications (Madras) P. Ltd., from 1995 with an interest in V-SAT and Distance Education to develop 100 cm dish antenna. The company exports 180 cm prime focus antennae to the Middle East. With his untiring effort the company has expanded its facility to produce 3 million dishes per annum.
6 Wg Cdr V Shankar (Retd) Shankar started his career with the Indian Air Force and after serving 24 years, took voluntary retirement and joined the IT Industry where he served in various senior positions in India and overseas. He joined the board of trustees in 2014 and is functioning as an Honorary Executive Director.

 Feed Cataract Patients
Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal is serving to poor, needy, distressed/disabled regardless of their caste, creed religion, or socio-economic status, especially in the rural areas. The hospital is conducting FREE eye screening camp at Sai Baba Temple, Pattabiram, Tiruvallur District on second Monday of every month. Accordingly, these patients attended the camp on 10.05.2010 and had examined. They were selected for cataract surgery. Once they arrived, we provided tea in the morning & evening, unlimited breakfast -idlis with sambar, lunch with rice, sambar, vegetables and buttermilk and dinner with rice, rasam, dhal and buttermilk. For diabetic patients, we provide chapattis or samba rava upma. We give hygienic, nutritious and qualitative food. The 20 patients were taken care with high quality medicines, accommodation, food & nursing care during their stay, all absolutely free of cost. They were discharged on the next day with good post-op vision and dropped back home. The restoration of sight brought a huge change in their life. They were now able to carry out their daily activities with comfort. The post-op evaluation was carried out at their door step on 25.06.2010.
 Working towards freedom from curable blindness
Chengaiah is working in a Municipality, since five years. He has lost his right leg due to septic foot. He developed blurred vision in his both eyes last year. He came to know that Pammal Sankara Eye Hospital is organizing free eye screening camps on third Wednesday of every month at Sri Paduka Mandapam, Sri Ramakrishna Mutt Road, Thirupathi. He attended the camp on 16.06.2010 & after examination he was selected for surgery. He was brought to the base hospital on 16.06.2010 and admitted on the same day. He underwent the general health checkup & physical fitness. The cataract surgery with IOL was performed on 17.06.2010. He was provided with medicines, accommodation, food & nursing care during his stay, all absolutely free of cost. He was discharged the next day with good post-op vision and dropped back home. The restoration of sight brought a huge change in his life. He says that he is now able to carry out his daily activities with ease. The post-op evaluation was carried out at his door step on 25.06.2010. He was so happy and said "I can never forget your hospital and your work. Your hospital and doctors have restored my lost visiton and given new life to see a wonderful world. Now, I am independent". He has started his daily chores with passion and happiness.
