It is often said that ‘A hand that gives is a hand that receives’.We are 4 Teach for India fellows working in the low income community of Seelampur, New Delhi. In our time spent in the community and with the kids, we have realised that just efforts in the classroom cannot give an excellent education, we need much more than that. This is a small start towards making that change!

We realized that the kids need a lot of exposure in the outside world because they have always been confined to the boundaries of their homes or community. They have never really got a chance to go out and see how the real world looks like or how beautiful it is!

The thought of an out-reach learning program got ignited when one of us visited the home of a child Shaliya and she said in a low voice- “Didi, I feel really suffocated in this community, there are no tress or a playground here. There is not much to explore around but my Father says that you need to study first."

The thought grew into a stronger idea when an over-enthusiastic Shadab said- “Didi, you keep showing us all these educational videos in the classroom of wildlife and deserts .But, I have never seen these in reality, how is it like? Never mind, I might get a chance to visit someday.” he finishes the conversation and goes away.

The other day we had a discussion in the school about our favorite holiday destinations and most of the kids said “Didi, my favorite holiday destination is my Nani’s house because I have never been anywhere else.I will study hard and will go to Paris one day, I have heard it’s beautiful.”
They dream, they want to travel, feel & explore new things but they face the hurdles of finances and orthodox mindsets. Education needs to go beyond the textbook and this is where we need your support.

We seek immense support from you in helping me raise money for the kids to take them out on a  5 day out-reach programme that includes camping, fun activities, exploring through the deserts of Rajasthan – creating access, exposure and understanding of the rich biodiversity and culture. The costs are INR 8,000 per kid that includes travel and stay cost to make this possible.

Dates for the camp-1st Feb.'18 to 6th Feb.'18
