My dear family and friends,
We seldom find a cause that keeps us up nights and brings more than a promise of filling our pockets: it fills up the soul. One such cause I feel fortunate to have been an initiator of is the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in the Shree Krishna Hospital in Karamsad, Gujarat India. It was in the nature of my husband, Dinesh J Patel, to think beyond the conventional objective of luxury and prosperity. I felt deeply inspired to keep that alive when I helped start this transplant unit under his name.
This transplant centre was conceptualised to be one of its kind in the state and that it should be able to provide affordable access those in need. Illnesses does not select its victim based on whether they can afford it or not, then why should healthcare be deterred by affordability? With these goals we have dreamt of materialising this transplant centre for the last few years and this year finally made it happen. This unit has treated 25 people and has proved to be a key cog in the field of healthcare in Gujarat and near by states.
However, there is always room for improvement. More so in a scenario where people's lives need saving. And while my enthusiasm fuelled by Dinesh 's penchant for helping people has not reduced, we all need help at some point and we should ask for it. We need a cell separator to help the bone marrow transplant unit function more effectively and this letter is a request to contribute towards it's procurement. The purpose of this instrument is to harvest stem cells in donor/patients as well as several other functions in platelet collections, cell depletion and therapeutic exchange.
Thanking you, with Regards
Bhavini Dinesh Patel
