Dear GiveIndia NGOs:

The last couple of months, have, as always, been exciting for GiveIndia. December marks the start of the giving season, which will continue till the financial year end. These months are also filled with the excitement of the Mumbai Marathon, where GiveIndia is the official Charity Partner for the event.

We have also had a successful season with our Payroll Giving programme crossing 8,000 employee signups to the programme.

Happenings at GiveIndia:

Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon

On Sunday, January 21, 2007, the fourth Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon took place. GiveIndia, the Official Charity partner to the event is proud to announce that charity collections from the event have exceeded the target of Rs.5 crore!

The GiveIndia Dream Team had it’s best year ever yet with 59 individuals who have collectively raised in excess of Rs.2.5 crore!

Dr. Nachiket Mor of ICICI Bank along with his esteemed colleague Mrs. Kalpana Morparia have raised more than Rs.1 crore for The Banyan, a Chennai based NGO. Archana and Amit Chandra, who ran for the third consecutive year for good causes, have raised more than Rs.70 lacs, And several other Dream Team members have raised the bar by collecting much more than the required amount of Rs.1 lac.

On the morning of the race, GiveIndia Dream Team members were given VIP service in the Procam Marquee and were having a good time meeting each other. The buzz in the tent was about how much each person had raised! After a lovely breakfast, Dream Team runners were lined up at the very start of the 6km Dream Run. A few of the first ones to return after their brisk 6km run were the superfit Yana Gupta and the youngest member of the Dream Team, 13 year old Aaran Patel.

For Corporate Challenge teams, the morning of the marathon started with GiveIndia Corporate Challenge companies arriving in to their own exclusive tent at Azad Maidan. The GiveIndia team also made sure that the companies had a great time by playing games with the teams gathered. In 2007, the newest feature was a relay race within the Corporate Challenge. Fourteen teams competed across the 42km full marathon course. The winners were Life Insurance Corporation of India followed by Microsoft and then Aditya Birla Group.

The Payroll Giving Programme

The last few months have been very good for the Payroll Giving programme. Last year we had 3500 contributors, and the number has more than doubled, and now stands at 8500. In November alone over 1000 employees signed up on the programme.

We congratulate HDFC Bank for crossing the milestone of 1000 contributing employees. The Payroll Giving programme was recently launched at NDTV, Marico and Zee TV. The response has been very encouraging.

Payroll Giving now raises nearly Rs 18 Lacs every month for GiveIndia listed NGOs.

Samaira cup proceeds

The Samaira Polo Cup has been conceptualized as India's first ever charity polo event. The event was sponsored by the Sona Group. The objective of the Cup was to use it as a platform to highlight the issues of child welfare in India and the proceeds of the cup were donated to charity.

We are happy to announce that Psycho Educational Society, a GiveIndia listed NGO received Rs. 1.5 lacs from the Samaira Cup.

Visit to Salaam Baalak

A few GiveIndia team members recently visited Salaam Baalak in Delhi. At Salaam Baalak, we were taken on a programme called "the city walk". The exciting city walk takes one through the streets of the inner city of Pahargunj and the New Delhi railway Station area. The young people who conduct the programme are fully trained as guides and took our team on an tour while sharing with us the journey of their lives.

The walk included the living and built up heritage of the area, and gave us a feel for life here. We also saw how the trust provides opportunities for street children and what amazing things they can achieve when given an opportunity.

If you have similar programmes and are willing to conduct them for visitors and donors, please do let us know, by writing to listing@giveindia.org.

Donor's Delight:

A donor who wishes to remain anonymous writes on receiving the feedback from Bhagini Nivedita Parishad "Thank you for letting me know the social cause my little contribution has helped. I chose GiveIndia as my channel of charity because of its ease of use: wide range of social cause, web-based and intuitive website design, supported by a leading brand, the ICICI bank, and acceptance of online payment via credit card"
