Success Story

Shortly after delivery, mother of Amrin noticed that her baby was not feeding well Shortly after delivery, mother of Amrin noticed that her baby was not feeding well and was becoming very weak. Weighing a mere 3.5 kilograms, Amrin was in the high-risk, category 3 of malnutrition. Living in a low income household and working as a rag-picker on the garbage dump where her home is situated. His mother had neither the knowledge nor the means to help her child.

On discovering his case, Apnalaya immediately registered her for the Supplementary Nutrition Programme which is a six-layered intervention. In addition to feeding, Apnalaya carries out growth monitoring, health checkups, de-worming and provision of vitamin A for Amrin. Our health workers also spent time with his mother, educating her on how to take care of nutritional needs of her baby.

By her first birthday, Amrin was brought up to a normal and healthy weight of 8 kilograms and is no longer classified as malnourished. His mother now understands the importance of child nutrition and with our help has been equipped with knowledge of the kind of foods her baby requires to stay healthy. She now feels that there is hope for Amrin
