Mrs. Asma Shaikh is a 46-year-old widow for whom life has been a constant fight for survival for the last few years, ever since her husband, a labourer, expired. She stays in a small hut (which has neither electricity nor water connection) with her two daughters, near the railway tracks at Kurla. The girls are small, the elder thirteen years old had her leg amputated due to a train accident. Asma is surviving day to day selling vegetable door to door in the area, making barely Rs.100/- per day. She also has to take care of her ailing mother out of her meager income.
