Success Story

Naresh, a young man of about 20, was diagnosed with extra-pulmonary TB affecting his lymph nodes. Naresh, a young man of about 20, was diagnosed with extra-pulmonary TB affecting his lymph nodes. He was ill and extremely weak when he came to Operation ASHA, referred by the district hospital. He had also lost his job because of his disease.

Operation ASHA’s counselor put him on the treatment regimen designed for his particular condition and counseled him and his family about TB treatment, symptoms and preventing transmission. Naresh went to Operation ASHA’s center, located only a few minutes from his home, every other day to take his medication in front of the counselor—all free of cost to him. But Naresh was still disheartened as he had lost his only source of livelihood. Hence, Operation ASHA decided to train Naresh, once his treatment was over, to become a counselor and work at one of its centres.

Now, himself working as a counselor with Operation ASHA, Naresh credits our counselor for helping him avoid MDR-TB and keeping him on the track to recovery. I used to feel very weak, with no strength to work and zero confidence in myself to work. Now I have strength and I’m able to work regularly. I’m very thankful to Operation ASHA for two main reasons: first, it is very close to my house and I can visit it easily, and secondly, it trained me to earn my living.
