Success Story

Kranti is a poor Dalit woman living in a village in Hulasganj, Jehanabad, Bihar. Kranti is a poor Dalit woman living in a village in Hulasganj, Jehanabad, Bihar. She had received little education and did not have a basic understanding of health and hygiene issues. No one in the family washed their hands before eating. Her children often ate off of the floor and were constantly coughing and wheezing. She did not use soap when washing dishes.

Our workers went into the village and spoke with them about the benefits of health and hygiene. We organized a Health Animator who brought health awareness among people to come to the village on Sunday to inform and educate them on hygienic issues. We held Training programme where they received hands-on learning. We provided a midday meal for participants. We showed them how to clean their homes properly and gave them tools to clean with.

Her family now washes their hands before each meal and after defecation with soaps. She keeps her children neat and tidy and ensures that they eat on proper plates, wash their hands before meal and after defecation. The health of the children has increased and the whole family is happy. Learning new skills and improving her family standard of living raised the self-confidence of Kranti
