Success Story

Rajeswari is 21/2 years old Rajeswari is 21/2 years old. Both her parents go for agriculture work in the neighboring village. While they work in the same village they carry the child with them and leave the child in a make shift cradle in the work site. But when they go to other villages their 8 year old daughter skips school to baby sit Rajeswari.

The parents informed us that the education authorities had warned them that they must send the elder child to school regularly as otherwise they would be liable for punishment under the Right to Education Act. They also said that they cannot leave the child anywhere else. Unless there is a crèche facility they will have to lose the wages as they cannot go to work leaving the child alone at home.

We enrolled Rajeswari in our crèche. In the mornings before they go for work, they leave the child in the crèche and pick her up in the evening on return from work. During the interim period the child is being fed with food and supplementary food and also properly looked after. Now the elder child is also going to the school regularly.
