Success Story

Ilkiya is a child born with congenital problems. Ilkiya is a child born with congenital problems. By birth she has clubbed feet and did not go through all the developmental milestones of a normal child .The child was operated to remove the clubbed feet. However her parents could not cope with taking care of a mentally disabled child.Her father was earning an income from drawing billboards and advertisements on walls. With the advent of digital media her father had less work andthe family struggled to make both ends meet.

Hariksha Peoples Welfare Trust educated the parents and told them that such children are slow learners and explained the need to build ADL (Activities of Daily Living) skills of the children to fulfill their basic needs by themselves. Ilakiya was admitted in the Learning Center to Develop the ADL Skills and Communication skills.

By admitting Ilakiya in the Learning Centre changes happened in her personal life.Her toilet skills improved, she started to communicate. By simple step-by-step directions, repeat instructions, setting realistic, attainable goals and giving plenty of time to achieve them there was a change in the child. It takes several months to teach her new skills. The developments of the child are monitored through MDPS scale once in three months according to the goal achievement.
