Success Story

Thilagavathi, a housewife had learned tailoring and embroidery 12 years ago Thilagavathi, a housewife had learned tailoring and embroidery 12 years ago. She could not engage herself as a tailor because she could not afford to buy a tailoring machine. She lost touch with the acquired skill.

Literates Welfare Association (LAW) had organized a six month tailoring and embroidery courses for women at Kadamalaikundu, Tamilnadu. Thilagawathy joined this course in May 2008 thus enabling her to upgrade her skills and learn more. She learnt to stitch, pillow covers, handkerchief, and dresses for women like skirts, salwar kameez, trousers and all types of dresses for children.

After completion of the six month course and on learning that LAW was looking for an instructor for their tailoring and embroidery programme to be conducted in nearby village, she applied for the post. Thilagavathy took the interview and test and was selected. She is now paid Rs.3250/- every month and happy to supplement the family income.
