Success Story

In 5 villages of Machilipatnam 25 adolescent girls have been identified by CRASA. In 5 villages of Machilipatnam 25 adolescent girls have been identified by CRASA. They belong to the Dalit community. These adolescent girls are school dropouts as their education was discontinued due to poverty and lack of facilities. Usala Aruna Kumari studied up to 10th class. She is a disabled girl and her parents are very poor. Due to these conditions, she could not continue with her education. She wanted to acquire skill training to become self reliant.

CRASA started a skill building training center with one technical instructor in the town of Machilipatnam with limited resources. To fulfill the dreams of 25 girls like Aruna Kumari, CRASA initiated a 3 months dress making training center at Palletallapalem village. The community provided for the center building. The training starts everyday at 10 am and continues till 5 pm. In the training class the instructor teaches them about dress making, drawing and hand embroidery designing.

Aruna kumari learnt dress making and hand embroidery within 3 months. CRASA provided her with a sewing machine and now she is able to earn Rs. 50-100 per day. Like Aruna kumari other adolescent girls were also able to make a foray into dress designing and dress making. They can earn and live with dignity. The parents now feel that girl children are not a burden on them. They can also go to their in-laws house with self respect. We also hope that the dowry system in the society will be reduced due to such measures.
