Majority of Dalit women work as agriculture labour Majority of Dalit women work as agriculture labour and are often unskilled and are entangled in poverty or end up as bonded labour. Damanti Devi has a large family to support. Both she and her husband work as agriculture labourers. Often they do not get any work and their large family has nothing to survive on

DISHA imparted training in stitching/embroidery/mushroom cultivation/handicrafts to the needy women. As most of them are illiterate the trainer was sensitive to the need of these women and taught them in a non-formal way.

After learning stitching and embroidery for over six months Damanti Devi was able to make ready-made garments for her family and also was able to earn Rs. 1200 per month by stitching garments.
