Success Story

While conducting a programme on Reproductive and Child Health in the village of Perumalpatti, While conducting a programme on Reproductive and Child Health in the village of Perumalpatti, PREED identified an evil practice prevalent among the members of a particular community. Sex Selective abortions were found to be very common and the cases of Female Foeticide were consistently growing.

With the help of the leaders of the self-help-groups promoted by PREED, women of Perumalpatti village, particularly belonging to the target community were organised in the local community centre. Awareness Programmes were conducted among ANC Mothers and adolescents to prevent Sex Selective abortion and Female Foeticide. Efforts were also made to promote eduation for girls.

Though these programmes were few, PREED is persistently interacting with the community through training, counselling and referral services to stop killing of the girl child. The impact has been modest but a change in attitude can definitely be seen. The scenario of girls? education seems to be improving. People of Perumalpatti have started sending their daughters to school now.
