Success Story

BCCHI organised a Baby Show at Belachalwadi village, Gundlupet taluk in May 2008 with help from GIVE INDIA donor. During examination of the children at the Anganwadi centre, Shashikala was found to be malnourished III grade. She could die. Parents who were casual labourers were too poor to afford a nutritious meal for their child. Parents who were casual labourers were too poor to afford a nutritious meal for their child.

With financial help given by a donor through GIVE, BCCHI was able to help Shashikala. She was examined by our Medical officer, who diagnosed her as having Macrocytic Hypochromic Anaemia with Pneumonic Consolidation. She was also suffering from diarrhoea for more than 2 months. She was dewormed after which dietary supplements, High Protein Energy food and half a litre of milk per day were arranged. BCCHI’s Medical Officer along with staff conducted regular follow-ups and the Anganwadi teacher monitored her daily.

After four months, her health improved - she weighed 8.5 kg and her HB% was 10.5 gm. Her mother Manjula had tears of joy and with full of gratitude expressed her thanks, If Shashikala had not attended the baby show organised by BCCHI and if they had not helped our daughter, I do not know whether she would have been alive today. BCCHI has given Shashikal a new life.
