Success Story

Vipin Sahu, 20 is the son of Shri Mool Chand, an auto rickshaw driver who earns around Rs 4000 per month, on which he supports his wife, Vipin and his younger sister.

Vipin Sahu, 20 is the son of Shri Mool Chand, an auto rickshaw driver who earns around Rs 4000 per month, on which he supports his wife, Vipin and his younger sister. Vipin got good grades in Grade 12, over 70%, and was keen to go to university but his family could not afford the fees. His father was keen for him to start work as soon as possible and contribute financially to the household.

Vipin approached ETASHA community mobilisation team, who in turn counseled his father, and a compromise was suggested whereby Vipin would join the CSWC program, which would lead to placement in the organised sector, and continue his studies via correspondence.
Vipin completed the CSWC programme in late 2008 and was placed by ETASHA in an internet start-up company trackmydate.com for Rs5000 per month, where he was trained in office practice and media relations. His employers were delighted with his work and after a year in the role, though sad to lose him, supported his decision to apply for another job offered to him through ETASHA, as an Office coordinator for a high profile architects practice, Design Consortium, in South Delhi for Rs 7000. Vipin received a pay rise in August 2010 and is now earning Rs12000 per month and has been given a scooter for personal use. He is also training in 3D design in-house. The experience Vipin is getting working in a professional and inclusive environment is invaluable. Nilanjan Bhowal, of Design Consortium, says that a recent business contact had tried to poach Vipin, so impressed was he with his work! Vipin gives 80% of his salary to his family, the rest he uses for his monthly expenses.
