65 families in Tehkhand village, Name of Counselor: Shailendra. Tehkhand is a rag pickers slum. 65 families in Tehkhand village, Name of Counselor: Shailendra. Tehkhand is a rag pickers slum. The people living in the slum are below poverty level and they live in very un-hygienic conditions and in very small huts. Owning to this, Tuberculosis was a prevalent disease.

Operation ASHA runs a DOTS centre in a rag pickers slum in Tehkhand, New Delhi. Shailendra, Operation ASHA’s counselor in that village, regularly visits the slum to educate people regarding TB. In a month, he visits 65 new families to counsel them on the methods to prevent TB and also locate patients and help them with the treatment.

In a typical month, Operation ASHA treats 50 odd patients in its centre in Tehkhand.
