Success Story

Naren is a male child aged ten years, who is mentally challenged, with speech impairment and behaviour problems often resulting in self injury. Naren is a male child aged ten years, who is mentally challenged, with speech impairment and behaviour problems often resulting in self injury. His father had abandoned the family and had remarried. The family was totally neglected and the mother was struggling to bring up her only son. The child is from economically weaker section of society. Due to the severe level of his disabilities and self injurious behavior he was not accepted in any school for special education or rehabilitation.

To begin with, his mother was given counseling and encouragement. She was informed of our special education and rehabilitation programs, and the importance of her co-operation in school and at home if she wanted Naren to improve. Thereafter Naren was admitted to the Centre. They were picked up from their home every day and dropped back after his training at Balajothi.

On admission to Balajothi, Naren was put on an Individual Education Plan (IEP).. He had to undergo Therapy and special education every day from 10.00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. As a result he has progressed in all areas of development. His mother is being given counseling regularly and has now come out of her depression. She now attends the Centre regularly with Naren and takes part in his training programs. She has found a new hope in his progress.
