Success Story

About 70% of the patients hospitalized at the Government District Hospital at Palakkad are below the poverty line. About 70% of the patients hospitalized at the Government District Hospital at Palakkad are below the poverty line. So when one of the family member gets hospitalized, another will stay by his/her side. Thus making 2 members of the family incapable of earning for the family. This pushes the families to go without meals for days and takes toll on their health. In many such instances, the whole family develops serious medical conditions due to malnutrition.

Basic Mid-day meals cooked at the institution are distributed at the Government hospital starting from 11:30 a.m.in the morning till it lasts everyday. The menu is Cooked Rice, Curry, Side Dish, kanji (rice bath) and payasam (once in a week). Everyday the curry and the side dish changes and we try to include all possible nutritious vegetables. The curries that we serve are Sambar, Rasam, Dal, Aviyal etc and the side dishes served are spinach fry, cabbage fry, bittergourd fry etc. These meals are cooked in minimal oil. Patients and their wards come and collect the food free of cost. These meals are served on all 365 days a year.

Patients and their wards who have no means of having mid day meals come and collect the meals served by the institution on a daily basis. Many a time, this helps the patient to regain his/her health faster. The families find this help as a silver lining as they do not have to stay hungry on any day. Many of them think that they are feeling better psychologically since they do not have to keep worrying about mid-day meals anymore when they are at the hospital.
