Vijaya, age 49 years, was a tailor. Her husband was a leprosy-healed patient but blind and was therefore unable to care for his family. Her family of 7 stay in a rented apartment. In June 2004, she noticed a white discharge. After a while she went for a checkup in a govt. hospital. Tests were done and she was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus. She was given radiation and seemed to be okay for a while. She returned to work and went regularly for monthly check ups till July 2005. Then she started bleeding accompanied by severe pain. On consultation at a cancer hospital she was told that there was no hope for cure. By Feb 2006, she had severe back pain and knee pain. She was started on pain medication at the cancer hospital and sent home.
