Success Story

Smt. Kamalamma Naik is a 50 years old woman farmer residing at Narur village of Sirsi Taluk in Uttara Kannada district. Smt. Kamalamma Naik is a 50 years old woman farmer residing at Narur village of Sirsi Taluk in Uttara Kannada district. With two brothers, their wives and children, the joint family has totally 10 persons. The family was using traditional chula with clay vessel to heat bathing water. The family needed about 16 cart load of firewood every year. This was a drain on the manpower as well as precious forests of the village.

TRDC educated the villagers of Narur, especially women, regarding wastage of firewood for water heating purpose. It also made them understand the importance of retaining forests to sustain agriculture and livelihood. TRDC showed them alternative and fuel efficient methods that are economically cheaper also. Motivated by this, Smt. Kamalamma constructed a improved chula for water heating.

Smt. Kamalamma is happy about shifting to improved chula. The firewood requirement has come down by 50%. Bio-waste is used as alternative fuel. Hot water is available 24 hours a day. Smt. Kamalamma and her family have satisfaction of saving many trees in the process.
