Success Story

Suma hails from a village in Shimoga District in Karnataka from a middle class family. Suma hails from a village in Shimoga District in Karnataka from a middle class family. Her vision started deteriorating when she was 6 yrs old and she became totally blind by 15. She attended normal sighted school until 10th standard. After she finished Grade 10, she heard of Mitra Jyothi independent living skills program through a TV programme on Chandana TV.

Suma started with the Independent Living Skills for two terms at Mitra Jyothi, but also became a member of the Talking Book Library and completed her 12th standard by correspondence course taking advantage of the audio cassettes. She simultaneously did the basic career centric computer course (CCCT) at Mitra Jyothi

Suma completed the 9-month CCCT course and is currently a computer instructor for the basic course. She is also pursuing her college currently and is in her second year BBM. She hopes to do her MBA in the future.
