Success Story

Sowmya of Kamarhally village comes from a very poor family & they live in a thatched hut. Sowmya of Kamarhally village comes from a very poor family & they live in a thatched hut. Her father left her mother (Jayamma) and married another women. Jayamma worked as casual labour in agricultural field and with great difficulty educated Sowmya upto Std.VIII in their village. Sowmya discontinued her studies because of poverty. Jayamma joined the Self Help Group in their village, which was promoted by the organisation. Sowmya after she left the school used to go with her mother to work in the field and used to get Rs.30 per day. But both of them would get labour for less than 80 days in a year.

Jayamma got the information in the SHG that IHDUA was arranging a training program (6 months) in tailoring in Begur, which was 1 ½ kms. away from the village. She asked Sowmya to attend this training program. Sowmya with great difficulty could complete the training program successfully. The staff of IHDUA Mr. Papanna & some of the SHG members requested the organisation to donate a tailoring machine to her as Sowmya was very poor & there was no lady tailor in her village and it would be both beneficial to both Ms.Sowmya as well as to the community. Now, with the help of Give Foundation, we were able to provide her with a tailoring machine.

Sowmya with the donated sewing machine earns on an average Rs. 1300 per month. She stitches ladies blouse, kuthas, nighties, chudidars, etc. According to Sowmya “ the proudest thing is, I have started earning on my own and I am so happy that I do not have to depend on my mother for even a small amount and I also contribute the income I earn, to my mother and share her economic responsabilty. All this would not have been possible but for IHDUA and GIVE donor, who has donated the tailoring machine. I would like to thank the donor who may not know the value of this donation, which has helped a poor rural girl to lead life with dignity.
