Lakshmi, Rathna, Jyothi, Nagarathna,Savitha, Hema and Geetha are students of Grade 7 at the Government High School in Horiyala, Gundlupet taluk, Chamrajnagar district. Lakshmi, Rathna, Jyothi, Nagarathna,Savitha, Hema and Geetha are students of Class VII at the Government High School in Horiyala, Gundlupet taluk, Chamrajnagar district. As adolescents they were curious about phenomena like menstruation. Was it something to be afraid of? Be embarrassed about? Why did it happen? Will this affect their health? Why did they get stomach ache during menstruation? Who could they ask?

BCCHI organised a one day health education programme on menstruation and personal hygiene in the Governement Higher Primary & High School at Horiyala. The phenomenon was explained to the girls ofGrades 6 to 10. The health staff gave one and a half hours lecture about menstruation and personnel hygiene. It was followed with discussion & also clarified their doubts,fears and apprehensions. Sanitary pads were also distributed to these girls.

Having understood their biological mechanisms in a scientific way, these girls are no more ashamed about their bodies. They are more confident than before and are educating the women back home on these issues.
