Success Story

Gurubari is the eldest daughter in her family with old parents & 2 sisters. Gurubari, is the eldest daughter in her family with old parents & 2 sisters. She lives in Mungunaguda village of Koraput district, Orissa. The village doesn?t have access to grid power and depends on kerosene lamps for lighting. She earns Rs.50/day as a daily wage labourer & spent Rs.15-20/week to purchase kerosene. They lived in the dark & had problems doing household chores after sunset.

SAHARA visited Mungunaguda and saw the condition of the villagers. We assured some support for the villagers. After 3 months, SAHARA mobilized funds to provide Solar based LED lights to each of the 37 Konda Tribe families of the village. The light allowed the children to study better and created a cleaner environment.

The Solar based LED light eliminated the need for burning fossil fuel products which protects the environment. The children and youth are able to study at night. The LED light has improved the education, health and productivity of villagers and enhanced their safety. Youth entrepreneurs also increased their income. Further the monthly expenditure on purchasing kerosene is avoided.
