Success Story

Selvam is a tribal with five family members living in caves of Sirumalai Hills, Tamilnadu Selvam is a tribal with five family members living in caves of Sirumalai Hills (Tholukadu), Dindigul district Tamilnadu. The area is inaccessible as there are no roads and wild animals exist. They lived in a cave, which is the habitation. Hunting animals and eating some tuber vegetables were for their survival. He could not use any of the facilities given by government like ration card, voter rights, community certificate, etc. This family and many more like them do not even come in to population census and citizenship.

ROSI FOUNDATION retrieved them from cave and constructed a hut for them. We received a lot of threats from non tribal people and police and finally an agreement was made for tribal people to use 5 acres of land for constructing huts in May 2010. Clothes were given. A solar light was provided. As they have a hut, tax number has been allotted. So, now they have community certificate, taken in to population census. ROSI has provided educational materials and nutrition too

Now they are collecting MFP (Minor forest produces) and selling them for money. From the income, they are getting rations from Fair Price Shop. His child is going to crèche run by ROSI. They do not have hunger and are away from human rights violence and endangered /risk condition of life.
