Success Story

Mahima Bhagat a 10 yr old girl studying in Grade 5 in Indore, with a family history of hemophilia as her mother is a carrier, therefore her chances of being a carrier herself were very high. Mahima Bhagat a 10 yr old girl studying in Grade 5 in Indore, with a family history of hemophilia as her mother is a carrier, therefore her chances of being a carrier herself were very high. With very few testing centers & the low family income her parents could not afford the expenses to conduct a carrier detection test & thereby determine whether she is a carrier or not.

Once HFI came across her case, we arranged for a donor to sponsor the Carrier Detection test for her & directed her to the nearest testing center the traveling, lodging & boarding charges during the test were also sponsored by the donor as the could not afford it. She was tested at KEM Hospital , Mumbai onn 13th April 2005.

With this support her parents could get the carrier detection test done which was otherwise out of their reach because of financial constraints. She was found to be a carrier. Now her parents can inform her in- laws about her carrier status before her marriage, further she can take a pre-natal test before giving birth to a male child to determine whether he has hemophilia or not & if found positive she can then decide whether she wants the child or not; this is legal in case of hemophilia.
