Success Story

It had been reported that the children around the CARAVAN centre at Mehsana were generally reporting teeth problems. Press reports had appeared indicating that water contamination and bad hygiene were responsible for this. Mehsana district is generally said to have a higher proportion of chlorine in drinking water. Dental problems are very common.

With the collaboration of Jaycees Oil City Mehsana SETU CARAVAN organized a medical check up on 10 Jan, 2010, thanks to the support of dentists Dr. Rajni Patel and Dr. Amar Bhojak. They not only gave a talk on dental care but also conducted medical examination of teeth of the participants free of cost. 180 children benefited from this workshop.

Most of the families in the neighbourhood of CARAVAN are too poor to even consider a dentist as a necessity, much less a desirability. Hence they were least likely to undergo a dental check up on their own. This medical camp helped save many a teeth for many a child. Moreover the doctors felt very happy to render this voluntary service and have offered to repeat such camps. CARAVAN organizes many such camps and workshops on topics of practical everyday interest. For instance, elsewhere a barber s workshop taught junior barbers how to use modern gadgetry for better hair cut and cosmetic use. A workshop on diary writing by Ms Ranjani Shastriji on 1/8/2009 at Shah Alaam centre taught the young Azharuddin Saiyed staying at 117, Dosamkhan ki Chali, Millatnagar, Maninagar, Ahmedabad - how to write the diary and the great value of time.
