Success Story

Divya Bakshi,17, has cerebral palsy and intellectual disability. Divya Bakshi,17, has cerebral palsy and intellectual disability. She is non verbal and severely challenged. She had many behaviour difficulties. Her cognitive functioning was quite low. As per our observation she had all these difficulties because of her inability to express and have friendship with others. She enjoys social relationships.

When she was provided with alternative modes of expression through dance & movement, art-painting and clay modeling, Divya surprised everyone with her creativity as she was able to add new expressions to the ongoing activity. We realized that non-threatening environment of Art Centre facilitated free expression and sense of achievement and worth.

She improved in taking instructions, following rules, better communication, more confident and significant improvement in Behaviour difficulties. She got the creative person award in Muskaan annual function held in April 2008. seeing the unfolding of her potential we are planning to teach her vocational skills so that she can be habilitated in Muskaan Work Centre
