Success Story

Veerajothi, a 3-year-old girl, is the 3rd child of Ammasi and Karuppayee. Veerajothi, a 3-year-old girl, is the 3rd child of Ammasi and Karuppayee. Ammasi is an agricultural coolie and Karuppayee works mostly as a daily wage labourer. The family income is barely Rs500 pm, not enough even to feed the children. The eldest son, 7 year old Raman, goes to school. However, his attendance is often interrupted, as he has to look after Veera Jothi in the absence of his parents.

There were several others who, like Ammasi and Karuppayee, were unable to attend to their children. There was no Government crèche in the village. PREED conducted a Balwadi in that village with local donations. Besides taking care of the children, the Balwadi also provided better nutrition and education to the pre-school children. Veerajothi assisted by a donor was admitted to the Balwadi.

She is now under proper care even when her parents are not around. At the same she is being provided with quality education free of costs. Secondly, Raman, her elder brother is also in a position to go to school regularly and study well.
