Success Story

Bhaskar was a young man 25 years of age was unable to find a suitable job. Bhaskar was a young man 25 years of age. On finishing his teacher training he was unable to find a suitable job. In frustration he began working as a casual laborer with a mason to pay off his education loans. As he was not skilled in masonry he was carrying bricks at the worksite until he heard about the SPW peer educator opportunity. He was a socially conscious young man wanting to make a difference.

SPW had an initial interview with Bhaskar and found that he was a committed young man. SPW recruited him as a peer educator. After 6 weeks of training he was sent along with three other Peer educators to roll out a Health and Life skills Programme in Kanchipuram District. This was an opportunity to sharpen his skills and a stepping stone to gainful employment.

Bhaskar is now one of the best Peer Educators in SPW, he teaches two classes from 6th std to 11th standard every week on Reproductive health, Sanitation and Life skills. He also organizes awareness campaigns along with other volunteers. He is now a confident young man who aspires to be a teacher when he completes the eight months of his placement as a peer Educator.
