Ghunti, a 34-year old mother of four, landless, a hearing disabled husband-nothing could be worse. Ghunti, a 34-year old mother of four, landless, a hearing disabled husband-nothing could be worse. With her being the sole economic provider, daily wage earning was the only option. Barely alive, she and her family were close to perishing out of penury.

Ghunti, a member of a womens savings and credit group was given a loan of Rs. 4000 in March 2000 to buy a buffalo. By selling milk, she repaid the loan @ Rs 300 per month along with interest. In March 2001, Ghunti received Rs. 9000 to buy another buffalo.

With two buffaloes and a calf, she holds her head high in front of the villagers and has a sustainable income source for her family. Her children get better nourishment now that the family has better earnings.
