Manickavalli, 27 years old, was living with her husband and in-laws at Valayavayal village in Thirumayam Taluk, Pudukkottai District Manickavalli, 27 years old, was living with her husband and in-laws at Valayavayal village in Thirumayam Taluk, Pudukkottai District. There was a misunderstanding between Manickavalli and her mother-in-law. They quarreled very often. Manickavalli’s husband supported his mother and beat her on several occasions. Manickavalli was not able to tolerate the torture of her husband and mother-in-law. One day, she left husband’s house with her son. She was six months pregnant at the time of leaving the house

Manickavalli came to CARD Swadhar Shelter with her son on 03.12.2005 due to some misunderstanding with her husband. She left the home on 22.05.2006. During her stay, she was trained for 2 months on pickle making in the CARD Food Processing Training Centre along with five more women. She was taught pricing, labeling, marketing of products and also obtaining FPO license for pickles

Now, Manickavalli is living with her husband and children separately at K. Pallivasal village in a rented house. .She is manufacturing pickles and selling them through women self help groups members and also in the petty and grocery shops at K. Pallivasal. She is getting an average daily income of Rs.80/- . Now she is happy with her husband and children
