Success Story

During our visit to Patadi block we saw many agarias (Salt workers) in the desert of Kutch. During our visit to Patadi block we saw many agarias (Salt workers) in the desert of Kutch near the Pakistan border. The children lacked education because they live under adverse conditions. Their parents do not have regular work and are paid miserable wages for their work. The children are left unsupervised as both parents need to work and there are few facilities for schooling.

We held a meeting with the salt workers and discussed their economic situation. We also asked about their children’s education. We realized that they had no money for their children’s education. By talking to the children we learnt that they have no school bags, books, stationery. We provided the children with these and this encouraged them to want to go to school.

The children are now motivated to go to school. They have been enrolled in a residential school. The parents are also happy as they do not have to bear the cost of educating their children.
