Success Story

Most of the School adolescents in Tripura have poor BMI (body mass index) and unhealthy lifestyles with consumption of junk foods in urban area and unhygienic personal habits in rural and semi urban areas. A Health Promotion Programme was initiated on February 25-27,2008 in Durjoy Nagar S.B.School , in a semi urban area of Tripura where School Adolescents of 12-13 years were the target group.The average BMI of the participants was 14.9 which was much below normal. 100% of the participants did not brush their teeth before going to bed.

VHAT made these children aware about living a healthy life style, how to prevent chronic diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, malnutrition as well as obesity and behavioural problems e.g HIV/AIDS.
