Success Story

55 year old Bhuri Devi, was married at the age of 9 years. 55 year old Bhuri Devi, was married at the age of 9 years. She was living a life of a housewife before she came to know about Vishakha. There was huge protest from the community when she decided to interact with workers of Vishakha. Her family also did not support her.

Bhuri Devi took part in the first literacy camp organized by Vishakha after a large struggle. After that, Vishakha organized women?s adult literacy camp in different villages. She took part in these camps along with other members of the community. She was selected as a village health worker for generating awareness on women?s health rights in the village.

Bhuri Devi can read books and sign her name. She participates in every Panchayat meeting, also raises issues related to women. She gives general medicine to women, monitors the ANM?s visit and supplementary food at the anganwari centre. She helps other women in violence situations and conducts meetings on issue of health & gender. Today people refer to her at every difficult situation.
